چکیده

The Mat ́ern correlation function provides great flexibility for modeling spatially correlated random processes in two dimensions, in particular via a smoothness parameter, whose estimation allows data to determine the degree of smoothness of a spatial process. The extension to include anisotropy provides a very general and flexible class of spatial covariance functions that can be used in a model-based approach to geostatistics, in which parameter estimation is achieved via REML and prediction is within the E-BLUP framework. In this article we develop a general class of linear mixed models using an anisotropic Mat ́ern class with an extended metric. The approach is illustrated by application to soil salinity data in a rice-growing field in Australia, and to fine-scale soil pH data. It is found that anisotropy is an important aspect of both datasets, emphasizing the value of a straightforward and accessible approach to modeling anisotropy.

The Effect of Spatial Variability and Anisotropy of Soils on Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundations

Naturally occurred soil deposits inherit heterogeneity and anisotropy in their strength properties. The main purpose of this paper is to model the soil stratum with anisotropy consideration and spatially varying undrained shear strength by using random field theory coupled with finite difference numerical analysis to evaluate their effect on the bearing capacity of the shallow foundations. In t...

Degree Project Level: Master of Science An Empirical Investigation of the Merits of a Class of Analytically Tractable Matern Covariance Structures in Spatial Data Analysis

I investigate, using the R package spaMM, the effect of misspecification of the smoothing parameter, , of the Matern covariance structure on the mean part of hierarchical generalised linear models (HGLMs) with spatially correlated Gaussian Matern random effects. In particular, by restricting to the set {0.5, 1.5, 2.5} I examine via a simulation study the amount of bias introduced on the fixed e...

Estimation of Genotypic Correlation and Heritability of some of Traits in Faba Bean Genotypes Using Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML)

In order to estimation genotypic correlation and heritability of some faba bean traits, 26 faba bean genotypes were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications during 2014-16 growing seasons in Agricultural Research Sation of Borujerd located in Lorestan province, Iran. The restricted maximum likelihood (REML) was used to estimate the genotypic and phenotypic correla...

Sensitivity Analysis of Spatial Sampling Designs for Optimal Prediction

In spatial statistic, the data analyzed which is correlated and this correlation is due to their locations in the studied region. Such correlation that is related to distance between observations is called spatial correlation. Usually in spatial data analysis, the prediction of the amount of uncertain quantity in arbitrary 4locations of the area is considered according to attained observations ...
